Preschool 3 Curriculum

Their are many exciting things that happen on a daily basis in the Three Year Old Classrooms!  Our main objective is for the students to learn to work together and get along in a loving and nurturing environment.

Each week, a new letter of the alphabet is introduced through a Letter Storybook, making "Feely Letters", Artwork, and Letter of the Week Show and Tell.

Math Concepts are introduced with a lot of hands on exploration and learning.  Numbers 1-12 are learned, as well as basic colors and shapes.

Large motor skills are practiced on the playground as well as in Music and Movement Class.  Fine motor skills are developed by coloring, cutting, and pasting, as well as many other activities.

The children's imaginations soar each day in everything they do, but especially during center time where the children are free to choose from many activities.

Each week, 2 students are picked for the GCD award, which stands for our school motto, "God, Country, and Discipline".  This award showcases our Students of the Week.  We also send home a stuffed animal, which is our "class pet", each Friday.  The students take turns bringing it home for the weekend, which creates a bond of community in the classroom.

It is wonderful to see the students grow and thrive in this environment!

Language Arts

The Letter People

This unique early learning program engages the whole child in interactive language development experiences that:

*foster competency in letter recognition and sound/symbol awareness

            *support vocabulary building

            *integrate all curriculum areas

With their 26 Letter People “friends”, children are fully involved in storytelling and retelling, picture reading, games and music activities that reinforce oral language abilities and emphasize character and values development.  The program provides a “real world” dimension which:

*reinforces life skills, helping children understand their environment

*teaches sequence, order, making inferences, and recognizing context clues

            *introduces a valuable home/school connection

The Letter People uses a balanced approach to foster a child’s transition from listening and speaking to reading and writing.

Math

Saxon Pre-K Math

This math program is designed to provide young children with an introduction to the most basic of mathematical concepts and to make them aware of how these concepts are at work in their everyday lives.  Using the bulletin board as a focal point, the children will develop skills involving the calendar, counting, patterns, geometry, and personal data (graphs), as well as listening and communication skills.

The Number People

These motivating characters help make math come alive with unique personalities that enable children to associate numerals with the names and amounts they represent.
