Music Curriculum

Preschool:

Music will be based on the preschool teachers yearly plans.  Movements is very important at this level to help students internalize the concepts of music.  We will sing songs about the current theme, letter, color, shape, and number during which I will begin to teach them vocal development, social and physical skills, body coordination, melody, form, and instrument families.  We will also prepare the Winter and Spring Programs.

Kindergarten:

We will explore the main elements of music.  These elements include: dynamics, rhythm, form, melody, and timbre.  These beginning skills encourage students to value and respect music and their participation in it.  Emphasis will be placed on how to read music.  We will celebrate our success in the Winter and Spring Programs.

1st and 2nd:

These grades are crucial in grasping the musical concepts so that they may be used to expand our musical horizon.  The concepts we will explore are: dynamics, tempo, articulation, mood, beat, duration, meter, pattern, phrase form, pitch and direction, tonality, patterns, vocal, instrumental, texture, listening and analyzing.

3rd and 4th:

Students in these grades should have the basic music knowledge to begin exploring and manipulating the components of music.  The students will further develop their reading skills through singing or playing classroom instruments.  Listening to and reflecting on live or recorded music becomes a more integral part of the students' experiences at this level.

-No one will be allowed in the music room before or after school without permission from the teacher

-Students will need permission from the office or a teacher if they are tardy.

-Grades are determined by the student's participation and behavior.
