Yoga

Yoga is great for preteens. It allows for both group interaction and personal expression. Yoga is a noncompetitive activity. It helps build self-confidence by enabling each student to learn new yoga moves and to progress toward individual goals. Yoga quiets the mind and reduces stress by teaching students to focus on deliberate movements. It gives students permission to be calm without scrutiny and coordinates the body and mind.

   Mindfulness training helps students focus on positive thinking and teaches them to be 'in the moment". It teaches students to focus on self-control and be aware of their own inner self in relation to those around them.

Objective:

  Through the use of direct teaching, guest instructors, video instruction and participation, the student will develop skills to handle personal stress, enhance physical abilities and improve body and mind coordination in an atmosphere of calmness and serenity.

Activities:

   Introduce beginners to yoga. Teach basic poses to relieve stress, improve breathing, provide physical exercise, link breath with movement, improve strength and flexibility and build lean muscle.
