Pottery/Painting

Painting

Painting is such a rewarding way to express yourself artistically!  Students will explore the versatility of acrylic paint on canvas, which works well for the beginner.  Acrylic paint dries to a flat finish and is a quick drying paint.  However when mediums are added, it thickens for more noticeable brush strokes altering both texture and finish.  Acrylics can also be diluted to create a watercolor-like wash or applied as a wet wash to fresh paint to produce irregular patterns.  It is a very versatile paint.

The objective of this Painting Elective course is for students to develop their own unique style while expanding fundamental painting techniques.

Pottery

Handbuilding may be an ancient pottery making technique, but it comes to life in this Pottery Elective Course.  Students will learn various handbuilding techniques including clay slab construction and coil construction.  Students will of course have a spin on the pottery wheel.  Glazing fundamentals will be introduced using low fire underglazes on both white and terra cotta clay.

The objective of this Pottery Elective course is for students to express themselves sculpting 3-dimensional ceramic pieces.
